Whole School Safeguarding Training
KCSIE 23 states: ‘…ensure that all staff undergo safeguarding and child protection training (including online safety) at induction. The training should be regularly updated. All staff should receive regular safeguarding and child protection updates, including online safety, as required, and at least annually, to continue to provide them with relevant skills and knowledge to safeguard children effectively.’
New to DSL Training
KCSIE 23 states: ‘The designated safeguarding lead (and any deputies) should undergo training to provide them with the knowledge and skills required to carry out the role. This training should be updated at least every two years. Training should provide designated safeguarding leads with a good understanding of their own role, how to identify, understand and respond to specific needs that can increase the vulnerability of children, as well as specific harms that can put children at risk, and the processes, procedures and responsibilities of other agencies.’
DSL Refresher

Governor Specific Safeguarding Training
KCSIE 23 states: ‘…ensure that all governors and trustees receive appropriate safeguarding and child protection (including online) training at induction. This training should equip them with the knowledge to provide strategic challenge to test and assure themselves that the safeguarding policies and procedures in place in schools and colleges are effective and support the delivery of a robust whole school approach to safeguarding. Their training should be regularly updated.’
Safer Recruitment and Single Central Record
KCSIE 23 STATES ‘…it is important that schools adopt robust recruitment procedures that deter and prevent people who are unsuitable to work with children from applying for or securing employment, or volunteering opportunities in schools and colleges.’
Prevent Lead Training
KCSIE states: ‘DSLs (and deputies) and other senior leaders in schools should familiarise themselves with the revised Prevent duty guidance: for England and Wales.

Online Safety Training
KCSIE states: ‘It is essential that children are safeguarded from potentially harmful and inappropriate online material. An effective whole school and college approach to online safety empowers a school or college to protect and educate pupils, students, and staff in their use of technology and establishes mechanisms to identify, intervene in, and escalate any concerns where appropriate.’
Safeguarding Children with SEND
KCSIE states: ‘Children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are also three times more likely to be abused than their peers.’
Child on Child Abuse
KCSIE states: ‘All staff should recognise that children are capable of abusing other children (including online). All staff should be clear about their school’s or college’s policy and procedures with regard to child-on-child abuse’
